Before the celebration:

            The Ilocos Sur National High School Day celebration was more than just an event for me—it was a journey that started long before the actual day. While making our props, I realized how much patience and teamwork were needed. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned, and it felt frustrating, but those challenges also brought us closer as a group. During our practices, I could feel both excitement and pressure building up. We repeated steps over and over, sometimes getting tired, yet still choosing to push through because we all wanted to give our best.

During the celebration:

            When the day of the celebration finally came, everything felt different. During the parade, I felt a mix of nervousness and pride as we walked together, representing our class and school. The energy of the crowd, the music, and the colorful performances made the experience unforgettable. When it was our turn to perform, my heart was beating fast, but as soon as we started, all the fear slowly turned into confidence. It wasn’t just about getting the steps right—it was about enjoying the moment and sharing our hard work with everyone watching.

After the celebration:

            Looking back, the entire experience taught me so much beyond just performing. I learned the value of cooperation, resilience, and believing in myself even when I feel unsure. It also made me appreciate the people around me—my classmates, teachers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes. This celebration became a memory I will always carry with me, not just because of the performance, but because of the growth and connections I gained along the way.

My Fourth Quarter Reflection

"J.A.M. – Journey of Amazing Memories"

            I have learned many things during the fourth quarter of this school year, particularly about my friendship with my three best friends and how to develop and strengthen it. I also learned that friendship takes time, effort, trust, and understanding. By being with my friends, I have learned how important it is to be there for each other when we are experiencing sadness, as well as happiness. I have also discovered how very important it is to communicate effectively with my friends in order to maintain a healthy friendship because effective communication minimizes misunderstandings and builds trust among friends. By sharing similar experiences, I have also realized that friendship contributes to our emotional and intellectual growth as we continue to learn. My friends encouraged me to grow personally, to be self-confident, and to remain positive when times are tough. All of these experiences have shown me how valuable it is to have friends who are there to support us in making our experience at school and throughout life a more rewarding one.

            As much as we have bonded together, we did experience some bumps in the road during the fourth quarter of school. There were times when we had differing opinions or misunderstandings between one another, causing strain on our relationship. Stress from school work, deadlines, and the like all contributed to how we interacted on some days as well. There were times we just could not spend as much time with one another due to being busy with our own schoolwork. Although small conflicts or distance did occur due to some of these situations, I learned through these experiences that disagreements and problems will occur in all relationships. Instead of breaking our bond, our experiences tested our patience with each other and helped us to truly value the importance of understanding how each of us feels.

            I made a concerted effort to become a more understanding, patient, and open-minded friend to my friends to help overcome these challenges. Rather than ignoring problems or allowing resentment to build up, I tried to have conversations with my friends about our feelings and listen to the opinions of others. The most effective way for my friends and me to address misunderstandings was by communicating effectively with one another. I also tried to remind myself to remain calm and to not react negatively in difficult situations. By using kindness and compassion towards one another, my friends and I were able to work through the conflicts we had and continue supporting one another. My friends and I also attempted to support each other during stressful times at school so we could continue to feel motivated. The efforts we all made to support one another made our friendship much stronger and significantly more important to us.

            As a result, I choose to stay engaged with my 3 best friends for the long term because of the support, loyalty, and understanding we provide each other. I will continue to develop myself by being more patient, responsible, and consistent in my words and actions. I want our friendship to continue growing stronger as we face new experiences and challenges together in the future. I will practice open communication, accept and respect your differences, and enjoy the time we spend with each other. I will balance my studies with my friendships so that I can continue to develop both academically and personally. If we support each other through constant actions, we will meet our individual goals while maintaining the strength of our friendship moving forward.

National women’s month celebration🚺🚺🚺

“Empowered Women, Inspiring the World”

            Each March, we celebrate National Women's Month as a way to recognize and pay tribute to the significant contributions that women have made to society. It allows us to acknowledge the many different ways that women have contributed to our society in such diverse areas as education, healthcare, business, government, and community work. Women have been central to creating history and remain key players in building strong children and families, as well as their communities. This celebration also serves to remind us of the importance of respecting the rights of women and ensuring that everyone has equitable opportunities. Many schools, workplaces, and communities work together to highlight the achievements and the struggles of women throughout history through activities.

            In the Philippines, National Women's Month is a significant occasion to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women. The government, schools, and organizations arrange programs, such as workshops, seminars, and awareness events, that center around women's rights and well-being. These efforts educate members of society about the necessity of treating women with the respect and fairness that they deserve. It's also important to remember that National Women's Month aims to inspire the community to support the creation of laws and programs that protect women from discrimination and violence, according to the Philippine Commission on Women. Filipino women are lauded for their strength, resilience, and commitment to creating a better future for those within their families and communities.

            Youth are inspired by how  National Women's Month highlights and promotes equality and respect for all individuals. This includes promoting equal access to education, jobs, and leadership for both genders. Many women leaders around the world have proven the potential of women to do extraordinary things when given the opportunity. By celebrating and recognizing the significance of National Women's Month, our society fosters an environment of fairness, dignity, and respect toward women and their contributions. This motivates individuals to work together to create a more equitable, inclusive community where all persons can realize their potential.

"Schooling to Operating"

            From a young age, I've been impressed with those who are called to be healers and help the sick, injured, or diseased. It is their important role in society that has drawn me to medicine and inspired me in my own dream to pursue a professional career dedicated to helping others.

            As I strive to be a doctor someday, it is important to me that I serve people with both compassion and knowledge. I know that becoming a physician will require years of hard work, determination, and perseverance on my part, but I am fully committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve this dream. In addition, I will continue to expand my knowledge of Science and Health through studying, to understand what it means to care for others.

        
    Being a physician involves more than just caring for the sick or injured; it involves teaching and encouraging your community on how to live a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease. There is no doubt that I will continue making positive choices into the future, and when I wear my white coat as a symbol of my dedication, I will wear it with pride, serving my fellow community members with kindness and compassion. It is this dream that drives me each day to continue learning and to be the best person I can be.

“Always on Valentine’s Day with Recognition”

            Valentine’s Day, celebrated every February 14, is a reminder that love is more than romance—it is about kindness, appreciation, and thoughtfulness. The day is often connected to Saint Valentine, whose story became a symbol of faithful and selfless love. Over time, countries like our country, the Philippines, and many others embraced the tradition of expressing love not only to partners but also to friends, family, and even classmates. At its heart, Valentine’s Day encourages us to value the people around us.

   

            More than gifts and greetings, this day also reminds us of the importance of gratitude and recognition. Research shared by the Greater Good Science Center shows that expressing appreciation can strengthen relationships and improve well-being. Even a simple acknowledgment can boost confidence and motivation. When we recognize someone’s effort, we make them feel seen, valued, and encouraged to keep going.

            On this special Valentine’s celebration, we proudly recognize ourselves for our achievements this 3rd quarter. Each late night of studying, every challenge faced, and all the small victories we earned truly matter. We have shown growth, determination, and resilience. As learners, we celebrate not only our grades but also our effort and progress. Today, we honor our hard work and remind ourselves that we are capable of even greater success in the quarters ahead.

"Intayon, Ilocos Sur Festival"

            The recent Ilocos Sur Festival brought festivity to many Ilocanos and happiness throughout the nation. The festival was full of music, dancing, and the smiles on their faces. Showcasing the bright, rich culture and tradition of the most prominent provinces of the Philippines, wherein many people from different towns joined together to celebrate the festival.

            During the festival, there were many events that occurred during those long weeks, showing the talents of local dancers and singers, that encourage us to travel to that particular place within. The colorful costumes and lively music made a promising scenario throughout the journey of the festival. The parade and the street dancing were one of the highlights where every individuals' showcase their pride and unity. Every individual who performed in this event presents the town's identity and creativity.

            

            Aside from the performances, there were also booths selling delicacies and local products. Visitors tasted the delicious Ilocano dishes that have been the hallmark of the festival, of course, not only that, but also supported the small businesses. The festival helped bring the community closer and reminded everyone of the beauty of their culture.

"It's More Fun Sa Pamayanan"

            St. Paul the Apostle, also known as Paul of Tarsus, was a former persecutor of Christians whose life changed after a powerful encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, leading him to become one of the greatest missionaries and writers of the New Testament. His feast day, the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, celebrated every January 25, commemorates this moment of transformation and highlights themes of faith, forgiveness, and renewal, reminding believers that true change is possible through God’s grace.

            Additionally, on the 23rd day of January, wherein the grandest part of celebrating St. Paul's feast month, I experienced one of the most exciting moments of St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur—the celebration of its Foundation Day during the feast month. From the moment I entered the campus, I could already feel the happiness around me. The colorful costumes, lively dances, and bright smiles of everyone made the whole place feel warm and alive.

            What touched me the most was watching the students dance gracefully while proudly representing different countries. You could see their confidence, effort, and joy in every movement. It made me realize how much creativity and teamwork were poured into each performance, and how the school encourages us to appreciate different cultures.

            That day was more than just a celebration. It was a reminder of how St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur brings us together as one community. I felt proud to be part of a school where joy, unity, and shared experiences create memories that will stay with me for a long time.

My Third Quarter Learning Journey

            During the Third Quarter, I learned the importance of being prepared and responsible in my studies. One of my major learning experiences was taking advanced reading and reviewing future lessons. This helped me understand the topics better and increased my confidence during class discussions and activities. I discovered that preparing ahead of time makes learning easier and less stressful.

            However, I also encountered some challenges during this quarter. One of the main problems I faced was during our hip-hop practice because I found it difficult to keep up with writing my notes at the same time. Balancing physical activities and academic responsibilities was not easy, and there were moments when I felt overwhelmed.

            To overcome this challenge, I decided to manage my time better by taking notes little by little during my free time. Instead of rushing, I reviewed my lessons after practice and completed my notes when I was more focused. This helped me stay organized and not fall behind in my schoolwork.

            Moving on, I will continue to improve myself by doing my responsibilities with passion and dedication. I will strive to manage my time wisely, stay committed to my goals, and always aim to be the best version of myself in both academics and extracurricular activities.

“Jose Rizal, the face of the Philippines”

“A Hero Who Chose Knowledge Over Violence”

            Jose Rizal’s greatest contribution to Philippine society was awakening the Filipino people’s sense of national identity and love for freedom through his writings. During a time when Filipinos were oppressed by Spanish colonizers, Rizal used his intelligence and pen instead of weapons. His novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo showed the real injustices experienced by Filipinos, like abuse of power, discrimination, and lack of freedom. Because of these books, many Filipinos began to realize that what they were experiencing was wrong and that they deserved dignity and equal rights.

            

            Another important contribution of Rizal was showing that peaceful reform and education are powerful tools for change. Rizal believed that an educated citizenry could improve society, which is why he strongly promoted learning, critical thinking, and moral values. He did not support violent revolution at first because he wanted change to happen through reason and unity. This mindset inspired many Filipinos, especially the youth, to value education and use their talents to serve the country.

            Lastly, Rizal’s life and martyrdom inspired courage and patriotism among Filipinos. Even though he knew he would be executed, he did not betray his principles or his love for the Philippines. His death became a symbol of sacrifice and motivated others to continue fighting for independence. For me, Rizal’s greatest contribution is not just what he wrote or did, but the values he left behind—love of country, courage, and the belief that one person can make a difference.

The True Meaning of Christmas Season

Christmas is one of the most special times of the year for many people, especially for Filipinos. At its heart, Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God and a symbol of hope for the world. This season isn’t just about gifts and decorations, but about remembering why the holiday even started — to honor love, faith, and new beginnings. For Christians, it’s a time filled with joy, peace, and a reminder that “God is with us.”  

            In the Philippines, Christmas feels extra meaningful because we blend faith with our unique traditions. Many families go to Simbang Gabi, a series of nine dawn masses that lead up to Christmas Eve, and end with the Midnight Mass, known as Misa de Gallo. These traditions help us prepare our hearts and minds for Christ’s birth. We also have symbols like the parol lantern, which represents the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Wise Men, and Noche Buena, a big feast where families come together to share food and laughter.  

            But what really makes Christmas special isn’t the decorations or parties — it’s how we treat each other. Christmas teaches us to share love, be kind, and be grateful for our blessings. It’s a time when families reunite, friends exchange gifts, and even strangers show generosity. At its essence, Christmas reminds us to think of others, make meaningful memories, and celebrate hope, joy, and togetherness.

National Indigenous Peoples Month in the Philippines

            October is a very special month in the Philippines because we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Month. This year's theme, "Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development," reminds us how important indigenous communities are in shaping our culture and future. The government and schools join in honoring their heritage, traditions, and contributions to our society.

            I think this celebration is really cool because it makes people notice the amazing things IP communities have preserved for so long. Indigenous groups are known for their traditional arts like weaving colorful textiles and baskets, their beautiful music and dances, and their deep respect for nature. These traditions are not just old stuff - they are a part of who we are as Filipinos.

            Lastly, celebrating IP Month pushes us to think about the future. It’s not just about remembering the past, but also making sure that indigenous communities are supported, respected, and included in development and decision-making. Their wisdom about sustainable living, culture, and caring for the earth can help us create a better and fairer world for everyone.

President Elpidio Quirino: Early Life, Career, and Achievements

            President Elpidio Quirino, the sixth President of the Philippines, rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential leaders of the post-war era. Born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino grew up in a modest family that valued education and hard work. His early life was marked by perseverance—walking long distances to attend school and supporting his studies through sheer determination. He eventually earned a law degree from the University of the Philippines, passing the bar in 1915. This strong educational foundation and his exposure to the struggles of ordinary Filipinos shaped much of his political worldview. 

            Quirino entered public service as a young lawyer and soon transitioned into politics. He first served as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives, later becoming a Senator and one of the prominent figures in the Philippine Independence Mission, which sought full sovereignty from the United States. His diplomatic skill and steady leadership contributed to the success of these missions, eventually leading to the establishment of the Philippine Commonwealth and, later, the country’s independence. In 1946, he was elected Vice President under President Manuel Roxas, simultaneously serving as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. 

            Upon Roxas’ sudden death in 1948, Quirino assumed the presidency during a period of national recovery. The Philippines was still reeling from the devastation of World War II, and Quirino faced the daunting tasks of economic rehabilitation, political stabilization, and countering the Hukbalahap rebellion. Despite these challenges, his administration achieved significant progress. He strengthened foreign relations, secured economic assistance through the Bell Trade Act and similar agreements, and initiated programs that improved infrastructure, social services, and rural development. His government also established the Central Bank of the Philippines in 1949—one of his most enduring legacies, which helped stabilize and modernize the nation’s financial system. 

            Quirino’s presidency was not without controversy, with critics often pointing to issues of corruption within his administration. Yet historians increasingly view him as a transitional and nation-rebuilding leader who helped lay the groundwork for post-war recovery. His emphasis on diplomacy, economic reconstruction, and state institutions contributed to the Philippines’ gradual stabilization after the war. Following his presidency, Quirino retired from politics but remained a respected statesman until his death in 1956. Today, he is remembered as a leader who steered the nation through some of its most turbulent years with resilience and a vision for long-term progress.

2025 National Children's Month Insight

        Every year, National Children’s Month reminds us that every child deserves to grow up safe, loved, and respected. The 2025 theme, “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, highlights the urgent call to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. In today’s digital world, children are more exposed than ever, and this theme pushes us to face a difficult truth: we must do better in keeping them safe not only in their homes and schools but also in the online spaces they use every day.

        The government has been strengthening its efforts through laws like the Anti-OSAEC Law and collaborations with the Department of Justice, DSWD, and DICT to track down offenders and support victims. Hotlines, reporting systems, and child-friendly spaces are being improved to make sure children feel protected. However, laws and programs can only work if implemented strongly. This means training frontliners, educating families, and ensuring that communities know how to recognize and report online abuse. Protecting children must involve everyone—police, teachers, parents, and even kids themselves.

        As we celebrate this important month, we are reminded that every child’s dignity and rights must always come first. Ending OSAEC and CSAEM is not just a government responsibility—it is a shared mission of society. When children feel safe, respected, and valued, they can dream freely and grow into confident, compassionate adults. Our commitment today shapes their tomorrow, and that makes this advocacy more important than ever.

Its roots trace back to as early as 1576, when it was founded by the Augustinians, originally named Santa Catalina de Alexandria, Virgen y Mártir. This long history is palpable in its landmarks, making a visit here a journey through time.
